FAQs

What age should I start my child in dance?

Any age is great! There is no perfect time to place your child in dance classes. Starting at an earlier age, however, can help children better develop their coordination and movement skills!

How do I choose the correct class for my child?

All Mini Mover classes are based on your child’s age. If your Mini Mover is currently 3 years old and will turn 4 years old during the next year (August through June), they are perfect for our 3-4yr Ballet/Tap class. Likewise, if your dancer is currently 5 years old turning 6 during the 2023-2024 season, they are best fit for our 5-6yr Ballet/Tap class. New this year, we have Hippity Hop & Jazz and AcroDance classes for our Mini Movers! These are great for your energetic little ones and getting your tiny dancer to the studio a couple times a week!

For our older dancers, the progression of our 6-9yr, 8-14yr and Teen classes is Level 1, Level 2 and then Level 3 or Beg/Int, Int/Adv and then Adv. Once your child has completed a year (or the majority thereof) in their current level, they are ready for the next level! You will also see classes labeled “Beginning/Intermediate (Beg/Int)”, and “Intermediate/Advanced (Int/Adv)”. If your child is in their first or second year of either Contemporary, Hip Hop or Tap they are Beg/Int students; if they are in their third or fourth year, they will be best suited for the Int/Adv level. If you have any questions regarding the best level for your dancer, feel free to email the Front Desk and they will help you decide which classes will be best.

What are the benefits of putting my child into dance classes?

Regardless of the type of dance your child wants to learn, dance classes help improve balance and coordination. They can also help improve muscle tone, strength and posture. Because your child will have an outlet for their energy, they may also have an increased attention span that allows them to do better in school. Other benefits of dance include: Social, emotional and cognitive growth, discipline, perseverance, motivation, heightened cognitive abilities and memory skills, and enhanced sensory awareness.
